Mixed Media Art- My Reflections
I’m a self-taught artist; working in various mediums, but mixed media is my preferred way to express myself.
I use all sorts of things and locations to make art. The common thread that runs through it all is that these are personal pieces, made by me…for me.
My Reflections
Despite being from a comms and media background, mixed media art has helped me in exploring my soul’s journey on the road of life- how it feels, what it means to me. It may even touch on some insights from my life itself! My paintings often include “nature” themes because this is where I find strength and solace for my soul.
My journey as a self-taught mixed media artist on this road is ongoing, and I’m grateful to be walking it with my family, close friends and you – my clients.
For me, personally, art is all about love and connection. And I want that you enjoy this journey with me. I believe that that Art works with the flow and fluidity of our deepest thoughts and feelings.
I often enjoy surreal, abstract and contemporary art: anything where I am encouraged to see myself in the work that I do. I find inspiration from many artists, but my greatest muse has always been myself – reflecting on life experiences, good and bad, happy and sad, and using those reflections as a source for my creativity.
How Art found me
Without a doubt, the greatest influence or inspiration in my life has been my family and close friends. They inspire me to create pieces that reflect bits of me. They are personal messages/expressions about who I am- a person who loves life, loves music, loves the Divine, and who has a deep connection with nature.
I have been creating art since I was old enough to hold a pencil. But somehow along my life’s journey, it got lost. Today, I am glad that I was able to reconnect with art as a whole and immerse in its delight – what I do in my studio is where I feel most alive!
I am glad that Art found me- it’s been there all along, but only recently have I learned how to open up and embrace that side of myself that craves creativity. After spending much time working with the public relations and media–and always putting others’ needs before my own-it’s nice now to build a little “me time” into each day. This means allowing myself time for quiet reflection, as well as time to create. It’s important to me to keep that connection with myself (and nature) alive.
I find it very relaxing, like meditation when I am creating, but I also discover “happy” things about my life during the creation process.
I’m not sure if this is what other artists experience too, but sometimes I can fall into a daydream state of mind – where time stands still – and other times I am cheerfully making art because it makes me happy. Those are the best moments of my day!
What inspires me?
“As a mixed-media artist, my artwork reflects my own unique personality and creativity.”
Nature inspires me- especially the fluidity of water, trees and surroundings. My little home studio is filled with them so they are always there for me whenever I want them just by looking out my window. And the cascading rivulets and birds that sing outside my window too. The peace and quiet also help me focus better.
As a person, I have a dream to be able to help children – orphaned and ignored. And the main purpose of Dancing Rainbows is to be able to use a lion share of the profits I earn from it towards the Dancing Rainbows NGO. That means being supported by children through the profits that I earn from people who buy my work.
In a way, whoever buys my art will be playing a huge role in supporting the orphan children of my NGO. It’s a huge blessing for these children as the contribution could literally transform their lives. And maybe someday, I will share the gift of creativity with these children too.
For those who are interested in mixed media/art, I would only say – don’t worry about trying to copy somebody else’s style or method- everyone has their own unique “flavor” as an artist. What matters most is what comes from within. And if you feel inspired, then create something for yourself. It doesn’t have to be perfect or even good – just put something out into the world that was created from the pure essence of who you are! Check out my mixed media art here!
My journey to becoming a mixed media artist!
I began creating art at a very young age but it is only now that I am full-swing into it. My art has helped me deal with life’s challenges and taught me how to live fully in the “here & now.” It also makes me happy!
Art is my first love. I have always had a special place in my heart for surrealism, and self-expression. And since abstract work comes naturally to me, I find ways to include bits of myself into each piece that I create.
Some of my inspiration comes from other artists, but mostly it comes from within. Sometimes memories arise or new ideas are born. Sometimes something just grabs my attention. But most often it feels like when an idea forms out of “thin air.”
It wasn’t until recently that I began to find my way as an artist. And then after working in the corporate world for years, I finally quit my job to pursue higher studies after which art followed through automatically, which has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Since the time I started creating art, I have always approached a new piece the same way every time- with an open mind. I create art because that’s what I’ve always loved to do, and I think it shows in my personality. It sums me up as a person- the things that are important to me, even if they may seem odd to others sometimes.
Art is here for us to enjoy and experience, to see beyond our daily lives. And when you talk about creating something “out of thin air,” perhaps there really is some magic involved.
As an Artist, I’m an eternal student. I enjoy learning new things every day. My philosophy when it comes to art is to create a piece that speaks to someone- the way music does. Art has the power to heal and comfort us in all kinds of ways, and that’s why I do what I do.
There are always new pieces that I add to my artwork portfolio. People often ask me if creating art makes me happy- the answer is always a resounding “YES!”
I’ve dabbled with other creative outlets, but nothing makes me as happy as creating mixed media art. Even when the work is frustrating or off track for one reason or another, that little voice inside keeps whispering to me, “You’re an artist. Keep going! And let go of everything else.”
When we do that and take time to be quiet and listen to what our hearts have been telling us all along…magic happens.
There are many ways to find inspiration when indulging in this art form. You can take advantage of all the opportunities around you. Surround yourself with art-related tools and materials while watching tutorials on YouTube.
Create your masterpiece that reflects who you are. Create ones that are authentic and contains pieces of your heart.
I hope that my art speaks to people on some level. It’s very meaningful for me if it does. And hope you find joy and inspiration in my work
I feel that I am lucky as an artist. I get to make art about things that are important to me and share them with others who appreciate them.
Life is beautiful!
