Abandoned Treasures: The Story

For some people, the Abandoned Treasures painting has nothing to do with art. But they are wrong! Behind it lies a very deep artistic meaning.

Abandoned Treasures is the work of French artist Bernard Pras, who was invited by UNESCO, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to create this piece of art for its headquarters in Paris.

UNESCO’s reason for commissioning this artwork is to illustrate that cultural assets need protection just as natural resources do. Hence the exhibition on natural resources held at the United Nations building in New York on June 14th 1993 during which the work of art was first shown.

Artistic Meaning behind Abandoned Treasures

The painting represents elements such as minerals, plants and human creations such as books, all ravaged and disfigured by the ravages of time and the environment.

When we see it depicted here, what do we feel? Sadness, right? This painting tells us that even though we create or discover something beautiful (such as a painting), it can very quickly be destroyed or disappear from this earth if there is no protection against nature or man.

We can see that it is a man who has destroyed the treasures in this painting, in his quest for knowledge and power over nature. Time has also played its part in their disappearance.

On his canvas, Mr Pras shows us the fragility of human creation faced with man’s folly and against nature. Thus he makes us aware to think about our responsibility towards what we create or discover. Will our creations disappear at some point? It’s possible because no one knows if men will still exist after centuries on earth…

With this magnificent piece of art, Mr Pras demonstrates that beauty can be created when an idea inspires an artist! To understand the full meaning of the work it is important to know what happened before or after it was created.

What do you think about the artwork? It’s sad, isn’t it? Even though we create things or discover something beautiful like a painting, it can easily be destroyed or disappear from the earth if there is no protection against nature and man. Right? We should be aware of our responsibility towards what we create or discover; we don’t know if men will still exist after centuries on Earth…

Inspired by the name of this artwork, I came up with my own unique masterpiece in mixed media format. My “Abandoned Treasures” is an intuitive, attractive, and colorful artwork uniquely handcrafted for home spaces, workplaces, and different public or areas places of your choice. It comprises a whiff of varied color shades, which improves its beauty and makes it unique when compared to other artworks.

My original Abandoned Treasures artwork has been delicately handcrafted using alcohol inks. It has a special one-of-a-kind touch since I’ve used alcohol inks that are applied using various techniques such as spraying, brushing, sponging to create different texture. This makes each piece unique since no two pieces are alike.

Varied depths of textures with soothing metallic tones have been carefully composed for that contemporary antique look, accented with stunning pops of gold leaf that leaves a magical sheen to reckon with.

Grab a Giclee Printed version of my Abandoned Treasures in A2, A3, or A4 frame size and let your walls breathe…
